The Role

Director of Public Health
£119,928 - £132,665

The City of London and Hackney present a uniquely compelling professional opportunity to Public Health professionals.

Hackney is one of London’s most vibrant boroughs - a community with contrast on every corner, where affluence and deprivation share the same postcode, and where you will encounter every lifestyle and culture that you’d expect in a world city. And while the City of London is home to a population of just 8,000 people, it’s the work destination for approximately 500,000 people, creating a unique demographic for public health strategy. Together they offer a career move that’s professionally challenging and rewarding in equal measure.

You can expect to play a lead role in a range of cross cutting initiatives, from obesity and smoking cessation to substance misuse and air quality issues.

Effective partnership working will be central to success, as you engage a wide range of stakeholders in promoting healthy lifestyles (with the help of a £10m Sport England grant), earlier interventions and more effective integrated commissioning.

You’ll ensure that the Councils’ Public Health team is at the heart of the health and wellbeing agenda in the boroughs, influencing or leading policy decisions and continually reviewing and evaluating the impact we are having on people’s lives.
